Jazz and improvised music
Jazz and Improvised Music, the field of studies comprising a first- and a second-cycle degree programmes, was launched in the 2022/2023 academic year within the Instrumental Faculty.
It has been created as a natural consequence of the dynamic development of jazz majors, existing at the Krakow Academy of Music since 2008, as well as the need to continually review the methods of teaching jazz music in the context of the pace of its development and stylistic diversity.
Combinig the jazz majors together as a separate field of study enabled introducing crucial modifications in the study programme, so as it has become adjusted to specific issues and problems of jazz music. Meanwhile including the concept of improvisation in the name of the new field of study indicates and emphasizes its role in the process of creative exploration of this area of music, especially in the context of contemporary trends of its performance.
Educational programme focuses on teaching skills and competences enabling future graduates to function in the professional music industry and build their careers. It also accentuates developing students’ creativity and supporting their own initiatives.
