The Department of Jazz at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków is pleased to invite you to participate in the 3rd International Scientific Conference “Jazz XXI.”
The dynamic development of jazz scenes in Poland and around the world over the past dozen or so years has made it increasingly difficult to follow the many changes taking place in the field – in performance and composition, as well as in jazz education, concert programming, and festival culture. The number of active artists and the breadth of their recorded output continue to grow, an increasing number of educational institutions are offering specialised jazz programmes, and the concert and festival landscape of jazz and improvised music is becoming ever more diverse. The aim of the conference is to examine and critically reflect on the most significant contemporary trends in jazz in Poland and around the world, with particular attention to developments in performance practice, composition, education, and the broader functioning of contemporary jazz scenes.
We invite artists, educators and academics specialising in jazz music to participate in the conference.
The conference will focus in particular on the following areas:
- The craft of the jazz performer
- Outstanding musicians and new faces on the contemporary jazz scene
- Contemporary centres of jazz education
- Contemporary approaches to jazz pedagogy
- Contemporary jazz festival and club scenes
- Contemporary jazz repertoire

- The aesthetics of jazz
- Jazz literature and writing
We invite you to join us in reflecting on the directions in which jazz is developing in the 21st century, its contemporary artistic and educational practices, and the transformations taking place in its performance, concert, and creative spheres.
