mgr Łukasz Syrnicki


A violist, chamber musician, and pedagogue.

He graduated from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, the class of Professor Zygmunt Jochemczyk.  He has taken part in master classes given by the Amadeus Quartet, Juilliard Quartet, Alban Berg Quartet, Smetana Quartet and Professor Kurt Levin.

From 1982 to 1986, he was a musician with the Grand Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio and Television (WOSPRiTV) in Katowice, and from 1986 to 1988 – with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia. Since 1985, he has been a member of the famous Silesian Quartet, with which he has recorded circa 60 albums for, among others: NAXOS, CHANDOS, EMI POLAND, OLIMPIA, THESIS, ACCORD, POLSKIE NAGRANIA, POLSKIE RADIO KATOWICE (POLISH RADIO IN KATOWICE), and ECM.

Together with the musicians of the Silesian Quartet, he has won, among others, Gramophone Classical Music Awards and 7 “Fryderyk” Music Awards.  As a chamber musician, he has performed in renowned venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus in Vienna, De Singel in Antwerp, Schauspielhaus in Berlin, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, Hoam Art Hall in Seoul, and Bellas Artes in Mexico City.

He has conducted music courses in Kumo (Finland), Zadar (Croatia), Łańcut, AMFN in Bydgoszcz, and master classes at the Academies of Music in Katowice and Krakow. He has been a juror at competitions in Hradec, Lodz, Bydgoszcz, Katowice, and macro-regional auditions.

Teaching is an important field of activity of Łukasz Syrnicki. Students of his chamber ensembles and viola class have been winners of nearly 60 international and national competitions and auditions.
