dr hab. Wojciech Kamionka, prof. AMKP

Wojciech Kamionka is a Professor of horn at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow and the Host of the 58th International Horn Symposium.
Kamionka was born and raised in Kraków, and completed his studies cum laude under Kazimierz Pamuła. He also completed studies (2002-2008) at the University of Music in Karlsruhe / Germany under Will Sanders and is the only Polish graduate of his class. He has participated in dozens of masterclasses under Radovan Vlatkovic, Dale Clevenger, Stefan Dohr, Marie-Luise Neunecker, Erich Penzel, Andrew Bain, Wolfgang Gaag, Christian Lampert, Peter Damm, Michael Höltzel, William VerMeulen, and others.
As a student, he participated as principal horn in the following orchestral courses: the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program (USA), the Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie Pleystein (Germany), and the Festival Junger Künstler Bayreuth (Germany), where he performed the Wagner tuba. For his achievements, he has been awarded several scholarships from the Polish Minister of Culture, the Creative Scholarship of the Mayor of Kraków, and the German DAAD.
Kamionka earned the Doctor in Arts title and habilitation at the Kraków Academy of Music.
His orchestra experience includes cooperations with orchestras such as the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kraków Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, the Kraków Opera Orchestra, and the Munich Bachsolisten.
A passionate educator, Kamionka teaches young horn players at the Rutkowski School of Music in Kraków, leading “Horn Academy” workshops at the Paderewski Centre, organizing projects such as Polish editions of the International Hornweek.
Wojciech Kamionka is the author of the first Polish-language horn method book in nearly 70 years, entitled “The Horn Method. Studying with Fun” (Polish National Edition, 2025), as well as several other books with exercises for improving horn skills. Many of his students have gone on to have accomplished music careers in Poland and abroad.
Kamionka is invited to lead courses, methodological workshops, and lectures in Poland and abroad (Germany, the Netherlands, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Georgia, Portugal, Italy, Thailand, Brazil, and the USA). In 2024, he led a masterclass at the International Horn Camp in Qingdao, China.
Wojciech Kamionka is the organizational and artistic director of the 58th International Horn Symposium, “Horn in the City of Kings,” in Kraków, Poland 2026.
