EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME OF THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL
at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow (AMKP)
(in force from the 2025/2026 academic year)

Basic Information

Field and discipline of science or art in which doctoral students are educated:

Field of Art

Artistic Discipline – Musical Arts

The programme enables students to obtain a doctoral degree in the field of art in the artistic discipline of musical arts in the following thematic areas:

– for education lasting 6 semesters:

1) composition;
2) conducting;
3) artistic education in the field of musical arts;
4) rhythmics;
5) instrumental studies;
6) jazz;
7) vocal studies;
8) church music;

– for education lasting 8 semesters:

1) theory of music.

 

Main Educational Objectives

  • artistic and scientific development of doctoral students in the spirit of striving for truth and excellence and upholding the ideals of goodness and beauty;
  • support in acquiring and developing the knowledge, skills and social competences of doctoral students as future artists and researchers or academic teachers, corresponding to the characteristics of the 2nd degree, level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework;
  • enable the preparation of a doctoral dissertation in the artistic discipline of musical arts under professional academic supervision.

After completing the Doctoral School, graduates may defend their doctoral dissertation in order to obtain a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the artistic discipline of musical arts.

 

Admission Requirements for the AMKP Doctoral School – required:

– knowledge, skills and social competences in the field of musical arts corresponding to level 7 of the Polish Qualifications Framework;
– artistic or scientific achievements corresponding to the requirements of Article 186(1)(3) of the Act;
– passing the competitive examination as part of the recruitment process, the detailed rules, conditions, procedure and date of which are specified in separate regulations.

 

Learning Outcomes

The programme enables students to achieve learning outcomes appropriate for the artistic discipline of musical arts, corresponding to the characteristics of the 2nd degree, level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework, which are included in Annex No. 2 to the Resolution No. 10/2025.

 

Form of Education

– full-time

In special circumstances, classes may be conducted remotely – the decision in this matter is made by the Director of the Doctoral School or the Rector.

 

Educational Programme – Course Description

The educational programme consists of courses divided into two modules and work placements:

  • humanities module;
  • module supporting the preparation of the doctoral dissertation;
  • work placement

Doctoral students are required to complete work placements in the form of independent teaching or participation in teaching at the Academy of Music in Krakow for 60 hours in each year of study. The allocation of classes conducted as part of the work placement is made by the relevant Dean in consultation with the Director of the Doctoral School. Work placement in a form other than that indicated requires an individual decision by the Dean in consultation with the Director. The doctoral student’s academic supervisor (supervisor) is required to observe the classes conducted by the doctoral student at least once a year and to credit the work placement in consultation with the relevant Dean.
