Trombonist, Academic Lecturer, Orchestral & Chamber Musician
A versatile musician, Andrzej Tkaczyk graduated with honours from the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow in 2015, studying under the guidance of Professor Zdzisław Stolarczyk. From 2013 to 2015, he further refined his craft at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Professor Stefan Schulz. He has participated in numerous masterclasses, festivals, and workshops, learning from esteemed musicians such as Christian Lindberg, Joseph Alessi, Michel Becquet, Jonas Bylund, and Jorgen Van Rijen. Additionally, he specializes in playing historical trombones, particularly sackbuts.
As a highly sought-after performer, he collaborates with esteemed ensembles, including the Cavatina Philharmonic Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Capella Cracoviensis, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra, NFM Orchestra Leopoldinum, Polish Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and many others. His extensive discography features recordings that range from baroque music to symphonic works.
A recipient of numerous accolades, he has been awarded prizes in various national and international competitions. His achievements also include numerous prestigious scholarships such as the ‘Young Poland’ Programme, grants from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and the Creative Scholarship of the City of Krakow (2024), among others.
He has served as first trombonist at the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Orchestra in Krakow since 2012. In 2018, he began teaching trombone at the Bronisław Rutkowski State School of Music and joined the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music, where he initially worked in the Department of Early Music. Since 2023, he has been a lecturer at the Instrumental Faculty in the Department of Brass Instruments there.
Since 2019, Andrzej Tkaczyk has been a member of the Brass Riders Quartet, performing regularly both nationally and internationally.
