On October 4th, 2026, Professor dr h.c. Constantin Floros passed away. It is a great loss for world musicology!

The contacts and collaboration with the deeply mourned and cherished Professor Floros hold immense and unique value for the community of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. We value the fact that he participated in numerous conferences and symposia organized at our Academy; that we were able to publish his valuable writings in the journal Music Theory: Studies, Interpretations, Documentation, issued by Penderecki Academy Press; that we could include an extensive review of his magnificent and seminal book Humanism, Love and Music (Der Mensch, die Liebe und die Musik) in its pages; and that he served on the journal’s Scientific Board.

Above all, he offered world musicology—and indeed the humanities at large—a broad new perspective on the phenomenon of the personalities and works of Gustav Mahler, as well as Alban Berg and György Ligeti.

The quintessence of his thought and his approach to interpreting musical works within a broad cultural context is found in his final book — published by Polish Music Publishing House (PWM) in a translation by Marcin Trzęsiok — Der Mensch, die Liebe und die Musik.
