Mission

The mission of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, in accordance with the motto: “per Academiam ad astra”, is education of artists-musicians, in the area of composition and performance, research in the area of music, music education and organisation of cultural life in the local, national and international environment.
The tasks designed to help achieve this objective include, in particular, creating optimal conditions for the development of artistic individuality within the master-pupil relationship, cultivating a pedagogical and artistic tradition dating back to the 1880s; and educating young people in the spirit of the highest values, namely truth, goodness and beauty; shaping artistic attitudes based on creative thinking, authenticity, mutual trust and respect; and preserving the legacy of past generations of teachers and graduates of the AMKP, with particular emphasis on its patron, Krzysztof Penderecki. The Academy’s academic staff view music as a passion to be shared, just as the outstanding artists who shaped the history of the AMKP did, including its founder, Władysław Żeleński. In keeping with Krzysztof Penderecki’s vision, the Academy of Music in Kraków combines tradition with modernity and contemporary educational models, seeking ‘new forms of expression for timeless themes’.
