RULES AND REGULATIONS OF PREPARATORY COURSE IN ENGLISH
run by the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków

 

General provisions
§ 1

1. The Rules and Regulations of Preparatory Course in English run by the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków (AMKP), hereinafter referred to as Preparatory Course, specify:

  • the method of qualification for Preparatory Course,
  • the rights and obligations of Preparatory Course participants,
  • the Preparatory Course schedule and duration.

2. Preparatory Course in AMKP is conducted in all faculties in accordance with the adopted programme:

1) at the Faculty of Composition, Interpretation and Music Education – in the following fields:

  1. composition,
  2. conducting,

2) at the Instrumental Faculty – in the following fields:

  1. instrumental studies,
  2. jazz and improvised music,

3) at the Faculty of Voice and Drama – in the following field:

  1. vocal studies.

3. Preparatory Course is held on an annual or semester basis. It is possible to extend the course by a maximum of one year.

4. The annual Preparatory Course begins on 1 October, and the semester course begins on 1 October or on the first day of the summer semester, respectively.

5. Preparatory Course – aimed primarily for non-Polish citizens interested in studying at AMKP – is intended to deepen the knowledge and practical skills necessary for commencement of the first- or second-cycle studies.

6. The completion of the Preparatory Course does not constitute automatic admission to studies. Course participants who want to study at AMKP are obliged to undertake entrance examinations, regardless of whether they participated in the Preparatory Course.

7. Detailed rules of organizing and conducting Preparatory Course at a faculty are established by the Dean of the faculty in consultation with the vice-rector for teaching, who supervises this form of education at the AMKP.

8. Classes within the Preparatory Course are couducted in English. In justified cases individual classes may be conducted in other language, agreed by the main subject teacher and the course participant.

9. Administrative services for participants in the Preparatory Course are provided by the faculty offices.

10. In matters not covered by these Regulations, the decision is made by AMKP Rector.

 

Admission to Preparatory Course
§ 2

  1. Admission to Preparatory Course is subject to the limit on the number of places set by AMKP Rector for a given academic year.
  2. Admission to Preparatory Course is based on qualifications. Detailed programme requirements are specified in Annex No. 1.
  3. Admission to Preparatory Course take place on a date set by the vice-rector for teaching. In consultation with the relevant Dean, the vice-rector may set an additional admission period before the start of Preparatory Course, depending on the number of places available.
  4. Candidates register for Preparatory Course through the AMKP electronic system using the Electronic Candidate Registration Module (MERK).
  5. During the electronic registration process, candidates complete the application form for admission to Preparatory Course and a personal questionnaire, attaching a photograph.[1]
  6. The forms specified in point 6 should be sent together with the following attachments:
  • curriculum vitae (PDF format file),
  • programme for the audition (PDF format file), in accordance with the requirements specified in the Annex No. 1
  • recording (in the case of qualification based on a video recording) or composition materials, referred to in Annex No. 1.
  1. Audiovisual materials must be submitted exclusively in MP4 format (image resolution no higher than 1280×720, H.264 video encoding, MP3 or AAC stereo sound).
  2. Files must be prepared in such a way that they can be played in the VLC application.
  3. File names must include at least the candidate’s surname and first name and should accurately describe the content in accordance with the submitted documents e.g.: surname.firstname_instrumental studies_brahms.mp4, firstname_conducting_mozart.mp4, etc.
  4. It is also possible to provide a link to a recording uploaded to a streaming service. The URL must be available until the end of the qualification process.
  5. The maximum size of a single file cannot exceed 1 GB, and the total size of files submitted by one candidate cannot exceed 5 GB.
  6. Files can be uploaded once the application form has been generated. The total number of attachments cannot exceed 10.
  7. Admissions for Preparatory Course may also take place in a form other than the above, on the terms described in agreements concluded by AMKP with foreign entities (in accordance with Article 323(1)(2) of the Act on Law of Higher Education and Science).

 

Preparatory Course fees
§ 3

  1. Preparatory Course requires fees, the amount of which is specified in a separate ordinance issued by AMKP Rector. Preparatory Course participants may also be required to pay other fees in accordance with separate regulations in force at the AMKP.
  2. Revenues from the Preparatory Course constitute the AMKP’s own revenues.
  3. The rules regarding the method and date of payment of the fee for participation in the Preparatory Course shall be specified in a separate ordinance issued by AMKP Rector.
  4. In the event of withdrawal from the Preparatory Course, upon written request of the course participant, the AMKP shall refund the fee paid in compliance with the following rules:
  • in the event of a visa refusal – full refund of the course fee,
  • in the event of withdrawal before the start of the course – a refund of 70% of the course fee,
  • in the event of withdrawal for unforeseen reasons (e.g. health reasons) during the course – a refund of the fee proportional to the fee for classes not attended, counting from the date on which the course participant submitted their withdrawal; this case requires documentation.
  1. The decision on the full or partial refund of the Preparatory Course fee is made by AMKP Rector in consultation with the Dean of the relevant faculty and the bursar, on the basis of an application submitted by the participant.
  2. Fees are non-refundable in cases of discontinuation of participation in Preparatory Course other than those listed in point 4.
  3. Matters concerning Preparatory Course fees may also be regulated by the agreements referred to) in § 2(13).

 

Preparatory Course qualifications
§ 4

  1. Qualification for participation in Preparatory Course is conducted by committees appointed by the Dean of the relevant faculty.
  2. Qualification is competitive in nature and takes the form of:
  • an audition and evaluation of a programme presented live or audiovisual material provided by the candidate,
  • an interview, conducted in person or online – if the Dean deems it necessary in the qualification process for a given field of study.
  1. The decision on the qualification of a candidate for Preparatory Course is made by the relevant Dean, whose decisions are final.
  2. The candidate will receive information about the result of the qualification process at the email address provided.
  3. Those who are accepted are required to confirm their participation in the course within the specified time limit. Failure to confirm the participation will be treated as withdrawal. The vacant place is offered to the next person on the qualification list who has been accepted for participation in Preparatory Course.
  4. Qualification for participation in Preparatory Course may also take place in a form other than the above, on the terms described in the agreements referred to in § 2(13).
  5. Before the beginning of the Preparatory Course, the participants shall submit in the relevant faculty office the following:
  • a certified copy of their visa, residence card or other document entitling them to stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland,
  • a certified copy of an insurance policy covering illness or accidents for the period of education in Poland or a copy of the European Health Insurance Card or a signed statement confirming participation in the health insurance of the National Health Fund (NFZ) (immediately after commencing education).

 

Preparatory Course schedule
§ 5

A detailed schedule for Preparatory Course is determined by the relevant Dean before the start of the semester, as part of the organisation of the academic year, in accordance with the following framework programme:

The rights and obligations of Preparatory Course participants
§ 6

  1. Participants in Preparatory Course receive a card which entitles them to use the practice rooms equipped with instruments and the AMKP Library and Record Library, in accordance with the general rules applicable to AMKP students, as specified in the AMKP Library Regulations.
  2. At the request of a Preparatory Course participant, the office of the relevant faculty prepares certificates of attendance and completion of Preparatory Course, signed by the Dean of the faculty or an authorised person.
  3. Participants in Preparatory Course are required to attend the classes specified in the detailed class schedule.
  4. Participants in Preparatory Course are informed about the conditions for passing the course by the main subject teacher.
  5. Preparatory Course participants staying on the premises of AMKP are obliged
    to observe the order and organizational regulations as well as other rules in force at AMKP.

 

Removal from the list of Preparatory Course participants
§ 7

  1. Preparatory Course participants may be removed from the list of course participants in the event of:
  • written resignation from participation in the course,
  • failure to pay the course fee by the agreed date,
  • failure to enrol in Preparatory Course or discontinuation of participation in the course for a period longer than 30 days,
  • failure to comply with the order and organizational regulations or other rules in force at AMKP,

 

Personal data protection
§ 8

  1. AMKP processes personal data obtained in connection with the organisation and implementation of Preparatory Course in accordance with the provisions of the law on the protection of personal data.
  2. AMKP collects and processes only those sets of personal data that are necessary for the organisation and implementation of Preparatory Course, in accordance with the principles of minimisation, purposefulness and accountability referred to in Article 5 of the GDPR.
  3. AMKP is the controller of personal data processed in connection with the organisation and implementation of Preparatory Course.
  4. Detailed information on the processing of personal data is provided in the application form for admission to Preparatory Course.

 


[1] The attached file must meet the following requirements: dimensions 35×45 mm, 300 dpi, the photo should be taken against a uniform light background, be in focus and reproduce the natural skin colour, include an image from the top of the head to the upper part of the shoulders, so that the face occupies 70-80% of the photograph, clearly show the eyes, especially the pupils, and show the person in a frontal position, without headgear or dark glasses, looking straight ahead with open eyes, hair not covering the face, with a natural facial expression and the mouth closed.
