Ear training – requirements for the entrance examination for applicants to first-cycle degree programmes


Dear Candidates,

Please check the requirements for the supplementary ear training oral examination, applicable to:

  • first-cycle degree programmes in the following fields:
    – Music Education (Musical Arts), major: Rhythmics
    – Church Music

Details:

– identification of two simple intervals (up to an octave),
– identification of one compound interval (larger than an octave),
– identification of two triads (major or minor) and their inversions,
– identification of one seventh chord (major or minor, minor or major seventh) and its inversion,
– identification of notes in a 5-note melody (first note given),
– identifying triads (major or minor) by naming their constituent notes – starting from the given note ‘A’,
– analysing a 4-part major-minor harmonic progression (identifying chords or harmonic functions),
– performing a multi-bar 2-part rhythmic exercise (on two selected piano keys),
– performing a multi-bar 2-part melodic exercise (singing one part, playing the other part on the piano).

 

  • for first-cycle studies in the field of:
    Instrumental Studies, major: Piano

Details:

– recognition of keys,
– recognition of sound structures (intervals, triads and seventh chords),
– analysis of the harmonic structure performed on the piano,
– performance of a two-part rhythm,
– polyphonic exercise: from a given polyphonic passage, performing two parts – one sung, the other played on the piano.
