dr Petra Matejova – fortepian historyczny
Petra Matějová combines in her carrier modern piano and fortepiano playing. Her interest is to approach each repertoir with the maximum care for the sound and interpretation esthetics of the time when it was conceived, which also includes the choice of instrument.
Petra Matějová appeared in the main recital series of her country, including two performances at the Prague Spring festival and a solo recital on both instruments in the major piano series in the Rudolfinum in Prague. She performs often with Czech early music ensembles such as Musica Florea and Ensemble Inégal, and she is a chamber music partner to several singers and instrumentalists. She gave concerts in most European countries and is regularly invited to the festivals in Central Europe. In France, she made a recording for the Mezzo TV as well as her first solo CD with works by Schubert, Beethoven and Voříšek. For the Czech Radio she has recorded pieces by Rejcha, Mozart, Janáček, Fibich, Franck, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Voříšek (complete solo works) and Tomášek (complete Sonatas). In 2017 three of her CDs came out with music by Voříšek (Radioservis), Tomášek (Supraphon) and young American composer Ericsson Hatfield.
Since 1995 Petra Matějová gives regular masterclasses in piano, fortepiano and chamber music. She leads the fortepiano class at the Valtice Early music Summerschool, in Poland she has taught in 2012 in Katowice, 2014 in Wilanów, Warszaw, in 2015 and 2017 in Cracow Academy. From 2008 to 2013 she taught the fortepiano at the Janáček Academy in Brno. Since 2018 she teaches the fortepiano at the Music Academy in Cracow.
Petra Matějová made her studies at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in modern piano. She studied the fortepiano in Paris and Amsterdam conservatories, and received her PhD diploma in 2014. Her thesis on Voříšek´s piano works and the early 19th century piano style was held in an international doctorate programme at the Université Paris IV-Sorbonne, the Paris Conservatory and the Janáček Academy in Brno.
