Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz – composition
Composer and teacher, graduate from the Academy of Music in Krakow, the class of composition taught by Professor Krystyna Moszumańska-Nazar (1987) and music theory (1981). She supplemented her studies on composition and theory at Folkland Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Tanz in Essen-Werden (Germany) under the supervision of Wolfgang Hufschmidt and Nicolaus A. Huber (1986-87). Zawadzka-Gołosz cooperated with the Experimental Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw (first commission from Józef Patkowski – percussion and tape composition – Girare in 1986) and Electronic Studio of the Academy of Music in Krakow, which resulted in electro-acoustic compositions. Between 1983 and 1986, she participated in the Summer International Courses for Young Composers in Kazimierz Dolny nad Wisłą, during which she had the opportunity of working together with W. Lutosławski, I. Xenakis, W. Szalonek, W. Shinohara, F.B. Mache. By definition, she has not taken part in composition competitions. Three exceptions resulted in winning the second prize for the composition entitled “Witraż II” (“Stained Glass Window II”) for chamber ensemble during Konkurs Młodych ZKP (1988), nomination to the Opus 2009 prize for the composition “Epifrazy na kwintet dęty” (“Epiphrases for Brass Quintet”), whereas Girare, a composition recommended by the Polish Radio for the UNESCO Tribune in 1986, scored a high position. Her accomplishments include compositions commissioned by artists, including J. Pilch (percussion), A. Pikul (piano), L. Asbjornsen (Norway, flute), K. Dawidek (Germany, oboe), M. Harley, Ph.D. from McGill University (Montreal, musicology), K. Śmietana (England, violin) etc. as well as festivals, e.g. the Warsaw Autumn and the Festival of Polish Music Premières. Chamber, symphonic and electro-acoustic compositions were performed a number of times in Poland (all major festivals of modern music) and abroad (Norway, Japan, USA, Germany, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine). Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz currently works for the Academy of Music in Krakow, where she teaches the composition class; since 2005, she has been the director of the Institute of Composition, Conducting and Music Theory.
