Academy of Music in Kraków 2006/2007 The SOCRATES/ERASMUS Program

European Policy Declaration

The Academy of Music in Kraków conducts a broad activity to promote contacts abroad. Its international status is evidenced by its membership in two prestigious institutions that bring together higher schools of music: AEC and ABAM.
Foreign students (from Asia, North and South America, and Europe), both graduate and post-graduate, have been studying at our Academy for many years now. Since last year, the two most numerous departments of our school have begun to offer full-time doctoral studies. We remain in close collaboration with foreign universities and other institutions of higher education in the following fields: creativity and composition; performance and instruments, vocals and conducting; research – theory of music, musicology, musical education.
Participation in the SOCRATES/ERASMUS Programme is our Academy’s chief element of foreign policy, a natural consequence of our pro-European involvement. At present, our partners include 51 higher schools of music in European Union member and candidate countries.
The Academy of Music in Kraków continues to expand its international activity. Ever new cultural events are planned for the nearest future: festivals, symposia and competitions. Courses, seminars and lectures will be conducted by some of the most eminent artists and scholars from all over Poland. We are planning to enter new bilateral agreements with interested parties from Finland, Germany, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom as part of the Lifelong Learning Programme.
We have been able so far to implement a series of the postulates of the Bologna Declaration, including: Diploma Supplement, two-degree educational system, ECTS.
We are planning to continue to apply the decisions of the Bologna declaration as soon as possible and to complement this by promoting European dimensions of higher education, especially in terms of professional development, inter-institutional cooperation, mobility programmes and integrated programmes for teaching, training and research; professional development mobility for administrative staff; mobility for the faculty with the aim of learning as well as teaching in many fields; creation of a virtual network of partners for exchange and distance learning. The Academy has established a group responsible for the promotion, information and implementation of actions defined in the University Contract known as the Erasmus Charter. The group includes its Coordinator – a Deputy Rector for international cooperation and artistic promotion – and his/her assistants. A University Coordinator and Departmental Coordinators of the ECTS System have also been appointed.
The Academy applies the same criteria of enrolment for students independent of gender, disability, ethnic background, race and views. Evaluation of a candidate is based solely on his/her artistic and linguistic abilities and skills.

To facilitate student and faculty exchange, the Academy of Music in Kraków undertakes the following procedures:
• It runs an office for the Coordinators of the Socrates/Erasmus and ECTS Programmes, which consists of the above-mentioned persons;
• It promotes the Socrates/Erasmus mobility programme in special information campaigns;
• It selects outstanding students for the Socrates/Erasmus mobility programme;
• It selects the best professors with excellent teaching results, who are also renowned musicians;
• It prepares documents for the National Agency to certify the applied procedures;
• It negotiates with foreign partners study programmes for each student using Transcript of Records and Learning Agreement forms;
• It prepares forms for reports and surveys on students’ and faculty stays abroad;
• It produces official certificates of foreign guests’ stay at the Academy;
• It facilitates students’ direct mail, phone and e-mail contacts with their future teachers abroad;
• It arranges accommodation, meals and insurance possibilities for students and faculty;
